To start the month off, we had parent teacher conferences with Mason's and Malia's teachers. They are both excelling in their classes and we are so proud of them! Mason is currently in an enrichment program once a week where he leaves his regular classroom and meets with a different teacher to learn more about Science, perform experiments, and do some advanced learning activities he wouldn't otherwise get to do. This is kind of a precursor to the GT program but for 2nd graders. It doesn't guarantee him a spot in the GT program next year but it does allow him to expand his learning and have fun while doing it. Malia has met all of her requirements for Kindergarten so she is with a small group of students in her class that work together on first grade material. She loves school and wishes she could go everyday! She is currently working on reading skills. I hope she loves reading as much as I do!
The first weekend in November found us in Utah. The main reason for going was for me to do a Scentsy party for a friend who moved there a year ago. We made a family trip out of it and had tons of fun! We stayed with Thad's brother, Loel. (I hope he's not tired of us yet.) We had a fun time at the zoo, and saw all the new baby animals. We loved the baby elephant the best! We took in a movie, A Christmas Carol, which was way too scary and dark for our children. Mason had trouble sleeping for a few weeks afterward. We ate lots of delicious food, did some shopping and just enjoyed hanging out and taking it easy before all the craziness really hit. I did take my camera but forgot to take it out and take pictures, bummer! :(
The middle of November brought my neice's 1st birthday. Claire was the life of the party! She had so much fun smashing her cupcake and smearing the frosting in her hair (maybe she knows some beauty tips we don't). She wasn't sure about unwrapping the gifts but didn't want anyone else touching them either. It was really difficult to keep my kids, especially Makai, from jumping in and doing it all for her.

The week after Claire's birthday was Thanksgiving. This week was probably the most exciting and not because of the holiday! The Sunday before Thanksgiving Thad and the kids were at his parents visiting when Malia took a tumble out of the wagon onto Grandma's kitchen floor and broke her wrist. Only they didn't know she broke her wrist. She only complained of it hurting for about 15 minutes and then she seemed to be fine. I was working late that night so I didn't get to see her until the next day. Later the next day she tripped while dancing in our family room and landed on the same hand/wrist. She immediately started crying that it hurt. She could move it okay and there wasn't any deformity or swelling so I gave her motrin and had her rest it. I took her to her dance class that night and while trying to do a handstand during their tumbling lesson, she collapsed because of the pain. After class I took her to the urgent care where they x-rayed it. The preliminary finding was that it wasn't fractured, probably just sprained or bruised. So they put her in a sling to remind her to take it easy and sent us home. They sent the xray out the next day to have a radiologist read it and it turns out she had a small buckle fracture. So we splinted it and waited to see the orthopedic Dr on Wednesday. They put her in a pretty purple cast, which she thought was cool at first but by the 2nd week she was tired of it. It was her dominant hand and she had difficulty writing and coloring. She did learn how to do cartwheels with the cast on though, so it didn't slow her down too much.

Then of course we had Thanksgiving, which we celebrated with my family since Thad's family goes to Soda Springs to celebrate every year. Being in the jobs we are, we are limited in how we celebrate since I usually end up working the holiday and Thad works the day before and of course has to work Black Friday after. It was a pretty relaxing day and work wasn't too bad either. We have had a little tougher year financially and it was nice to reflect on all we have and everything we are grateful for instead of what we don't have. We have a beautiful home that protects us from the elements, we have food to eat, we are healthy, we have wonderful family and friends, we have jobs, we have the gospel of Jesus Christ, and most of all we have each other.
November also brought many firsts for Maiya! She got her first tooth! She learned how to scoot on her bottom to move to where she wanted. She learned how to blow raspberries and loves to blow raspberries back and forth with whoever is willing.
