We kicked off our December with Malia's Christmas Dance Party and Mason's school Christmas concert. I have already posted about those events. We made tons of goodies for my Scentsy holiday open house and for the 8-11 year old girls from church to decorate for an activity. Along with all of our baking, the kids wanted to make a gingerbread house. Thad's store sells kits for $10, so we picked one up. After returning a very broken kit to the store we were able to have some fun decorating our house. Here are the results.
On Christmas Eve, I promised the kids they could make some more cookies, only this time they were for Santa. They had so much fun helping me measure and mix the dough. And of course they also enjoyed eating the dough, afterall, that's the best part! Makai was napping while all the mixing and measuring was happening but he was there to help me put them on the cookie sheets. They were quite impressed that Santa enjoyed the cookies and milk they set out for him. He ate them all!
With us living so close to family we always have the dilemma of who we spend which holiday with. This year it was my family's turn to have us on Christmas Eve. We enjoyed some pizza and then opened gifts with everyone. The kids were spoiled and loved all of their gifts.
We got home a little late on Christmas Eve due to a heavy snowfall, so we didn't get to enjoy our traditional reading of Christ's birth, but we did make sure the kids opened their Christmas jammies before going to bed. Christmas morning they slept in until 8 am! We couldn't believe it! We expected them to be up at the crack of dawn, especially since they are usually up between 6 and 7. So I decided to get up at 8 and see what I could do to arouse the troops. I turned the Christmas music on and started making hot chocolate and getting food ready for breakfast. Makai was the first one to arrive downstairs and was so excited about his new cars and race track Santa brought him. Even with all my attempts to wake them, Thad still had to physically wake up Mason and Malia. They were very surprised and happy with what Santa brought them.
After quickly assembling the gifts Santa brought (note to Santa: next time assemble everything before Christmas), everyone got dressed while I made breakfast. Following breakfast, we opened our gifts from each other. Makai was so excited to unwrap his gifts, he had them unwrapped before Thad had all the gifts out from under the tree. Unfortunately I didn't get many pictures of the gift opening frenzy since it went so fast and the pictures always end up so blurry from all of the kids movements. (I think it's time to upgrade to a camera with a faster shutter). We let the kids enjoy their gifts for a couple hours and then packed everyone up in the van and drove over to Thad's parents for more celebrating. They spoiled us even more than my family! It was also nice to get to see and talk via webcam to Thad's brothers, Tony and Loel, who live in Florida. We enjoyed a yummy dinner and watched a movie while Mason played his new Nintendo DS from Uncle Jared and Malia read books with Grandma.
We also didn't enjoy our traditional night out looking at Christmas lights on people's houses. We just didn't seem to have a night that worked out well for us all to go. So we decided to hit a few neighborhoods on our way home. We weren't disappointed either. As you can see we had a wonderful Christmas! We hope you did too!

Sounds like you had a great Christmas. My kids didn't get up until 9:00 AM. I was grateful for the extra sleep since I am so tired these days.
