We had a bit of an exciting evening yesterday. I wanted to write about it before I forgot. I wasn't feeling well, surprise, surprise, and was inside the house reading a book. Thad was inside with me reading a book as well. Malia and Makai wanted to be outside in the backyard and playing with water guns. So we let them since we could see them through the windows from where we were sitting. All of a sudden we hear our kids both screaming. When we got outside our kids were near the fountain and they had a swarm of wasps around them. Thad quickly got to them and pulled them out. Malia was lucky and ended up with only one sting, but poor Makai had at least 6 stings that we could see. He cried for a while but quickly felt better with a dose of motrin and benadryl on board. By the end of the night the swelling and redness were gone and he was acting normal. Thank goodness he didn't have a severe reaction to that many stings!
Thad being the responsible dad he is went to Walmart and got 2 cans of wasp spray and unloaded both cans on 3 huge nests around our house. We know living in the country with so much undeveloped farm land around us brings these problems but this summer has been especially bad for pests. Maybe next year we will be able to afford a pest control company's services. For now we'll just teach our kids to be more cautious about where they go in our yard.
