Christmas with the Phelps'

Living close to family allows us ample opportunity to share the holidays with our loved ones. We started our Christmas celebrations on Sunday, December 23rd with brunch at Charissa's parents and gift opening with Casey and Kendra who traveled to Utah to spend Christmas with her family.

With all of our family nearby it makes it difficult and tiring to celebrate the holiday with everyone so we try spend to Christmas Eve with one family and Christmas Day with the other family. This year we spent Christmas Eve with Thad's family. We had Thad's parents and his brother Jared over to our house to have a wonderful ham dinner and then opened a few presents with them.

We also have a tradition where on Christmas Eve we have the kids open up a present from us with their Christmas Pajamas inside. We love this tradition as it helps to relieve some of their excitement about opening gifts and helps them get settled for Santa to come. The kids were so excited for Santa to come they couldn't wait to put their new pajamas on and go to bed. Except that we did catch Mason out of bed just once.

The kids slept in until 8:00 at which time we finally encouraged them to get up and see what Santa brought them. They were so excited and loved everything they got. We of course being the mean parents that we are made them eat breakfast before opening any more gifts. They were actually okay with that. We finally got around to the gift opening frenzy which left our family room looking like a cyclone hit it. We managed to get it put back in order before heading off to Charissa's parents house for dinner. Are you wondering how Makai did with all of the gift opening?...wonder no more...he wasn't really that interested. If he opened a toy with lights or music he was into it, otherwise mom and dad were opening his gifts. I guess there's always next year for him to catch the excitement.

We had a wonderful dinner of Turkey with all the fixings at the Hinkle's house and enjoyed the company of Grandma and Grandpa Harris, Chris and Krystal, Charissa's parents, and our family. We watched the kids open a few presents from Grandma and Grandpa and then headed home. We were all so tired and ready for the day to end. It was a wonderful holiday...but as always it's much too crazy and goes by way too fast!
